The history of Journalism Programme at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran, began with the establishment of the Faculty of Journalism and Publishing (FDP/Fakultas Djurnalistik dan Publisistik) on February 1, 1962.
Due to academic considerations and the need for graduates to be more easily absorbed in the professional field, on April 23, 1963, the Faculty of Journalism and Publishing changed into the Faculty of Publishing, Universitas Padjadjaran.
This faculty was the forerunner to the establishment of the first Faculty of Communication Sciences in Indonesia. The change of the faculty’s name occurred when the orientation of Communication Sciences in Indonesia experienced a shift from Europe, especially Germany, to America.
Hence, the Faculty of Publishing was renamed as the Faculty of Communication Sciences (FIKOM/Fakultas Ilmu Komunikasi). Despite the renaming process several times, Journalism Concentration at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Universitas Padjadjaran tried to become an independent programme.
In the end, journalism education as a programme was approved with the issuance of a permit number 72/E/O/2014 from the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.
Thus, Journalism Programme was officially established on May 7, 2014.
After obtaining this approval, Journalism Programme then followed an accreditation process by the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN PT) with a result of “A” score.
