On March 4, 2023, at the FIKOM Campus, an event known as Alumni Day was held. This event featured several prominent speakers who are alumni of the Journalism Program. The speakers included Ni Putu Sekar Trisnanda, a 2013 graduate who works at Kompas TV, Stefanno ‘Pepen’ Sulaiman, a 2011 graduate who works at Reuters, Andi Bachtiar Yusuf, a 1991 graduate who is a filmmaker, Chairul Furqon, a 1990 graduate who is now a management lecturer at UPI, and Tri Irwanda, a 1990 graduate who is actively involved in Rumah Cemara, an NGO.
In this meeting, the speakers shared their personal experiences since graduating from the Journalism Program. They discussed the challenges they faced in finding jobs and pursuing careers in the field of journalism. Additionally, they provided insights and solutions regarding the common issues faced by graduates of this program in job searching.
One of the issues discussed was about viral content on social media regarding Journalism education, which has become one of the most regretted majors by netizens when it comes to job searching. The speakers shared their perspectives on why some Journalism graduates find it difficult to secure jobs related to their field of study. They raised important questions about the relevance of the curriculum, the skills needed in the field of journalism, and strategies that can help Journalism graduates succeed in their careers.
This meeting provided an opportunity for Journalism alumni and students to engage in discussions, exchange information, and gain inspiration from experienced speakers. The event aimed to provide new insights and motivation for participants to face the challenges in the field of journalism, as well as strengthen the relationship between alumni and the Journalism program.
